Casey Beyel wins 2006-07 Flagship Award
Recent OCHS graduate Casey Beyel won one of the awards, presented to the
top senior athletes in the Cape-Atlantic League. A star in field hockey and lacrosse and
a starter in basketball, she is the fourth winner from OCHS in the award's seven years -
joining Renee Tomlin (2006), John Richardson (2003) and Chad Severs (2001). Beyel shared
the female Flagship Award with Mary Wilks of Bridgeton. The male winner was Matt Szczur
of Lower Cape May.
Wednesday, June 27th
Ocean City to remain in NJSIAA Group 3 in 2007-08
Raiders will play in Group 3 during the next school year for the 30th time
in the last 31 years. Among Cape-Atlantic League schools, only Middle Township changed
classifications. Middle dropped from Group 3 to Group 2.
Saturday, June 2nd
Girls Track (5-3) at NJSIAA State Group 3 Meet (South Plainfield)
The 4x400 meter relay team, Anna Ceniccola (800), Melissa
Terwilliger (100 hurdles) and Ali Decredico (pole vault) all competed.
Boys Track (4-4) at NJSIAA State Group 3 Meet (South Plainfield)
John Fennekohl ran in the 3200 and Ryan Birchmeier in the 800.
Sophomore Brett Johnson, a double South Jersey champion, could not run in the
3200 because of a stress fracture.
Friday, June 1st

Boys/Girls Crews at SRAA Regatta (Camden)
The girls varsity four (Amy Shrader, Danielle Brady, Colleen Smith, Shawnee
Foglio and coxswain Nicole DeCredico) finished 3rd.
Girls Track (5-3) at SJ Group 3 Meet (Buena)
Melissa Terwilliger (100 hurdles), Anna Ceniccola (800) and the 4x400
each finished 5th and the 4x400 meter relay team 4th and all advanced to the state meet.
Boys Track (4-4) at SJ Group 3 Meet (Buena)
Sophomore Brett Johnson won his second South Jersey title, adding the
3200 meters to his Friday win in the 1600 meters. Ryan Birchmeier was second in the
800 for the 2nd straight year and John Fennekohl was 5th in the 3200 to also qualify
for the state meet.
Friday, May 25th
NJSIAA Group 3 Tournament:
Girls Lacrosse (14-4) lost to Moorestown, 21-5
Casey Beyel and Nicole Benson each scored twice. The Quakers, ranked
No. 10 in the nation, fired 42 shots on goal.
Girls Track (5-3) at SJ Group 3 Meet (Buena)
Ali Decredico set a new school record by clearing 10 feet, 6 inches to
win the South Jersey Group 3 championship in the pole vault. Anna Ceniccola also
advanced to the state meet by taking 6th in the 1600.
Boys Track (4-4) at SJ Group 3 Meet, 3pm (Buena)
Sophomore Brett Johnson defeated two runners who had defeated him last
year to win the 1600 meters. He is the first OCHS sophomore to win a South Jersey boys
track title since John Richardson in 2001.
Boys/Girls Crews at SRAA Regatta, 3pm (Camden)
The OCHS girls junior eight and senior four both advanced to the semi-finals.
Boys Lacrosse (3-9) lost to Middle Township, 7-3
Jim O'Donnell, Drew Jankowski and Joe Gleason scored for OCHS.

Coed Golf (15-6) lost to Mainland, 155-169
Rob Kimball, Justin Heckler and Matt Galownia each shot 42 at Linwood.

NJSIAA Group 3 Tournament:
Girls Lacrosse (14-3) defeated Clearview, 12-11
Michelle McKinley scored with 7:15 left to give OC a 12-8 lead.
Casey Beyel scored three times.
Coed Golf (14-5) at NJSIAA State Girls Meet
Elisa Mateer shot an 87 at Bamm Hollow in Lincroft to finish 5th.
Baseball (6-14) lost to Sacred Heart, 11-1 (6 innings)
Keenan McPeak homered in the 6th to spoil the shutout.
Softball (3-17) defeated Sacred Heart, 7-3
Winning pitcher Lauren Smith had three hits, Kathleen Kleva had
two RBIs and Natalie Chamberlain hit a home run and scored three runs.
Tuesday, May 22nd
Coed Golf (15-5) defeated Cumberland, 166-167
Justin Heckler carded a 39 and Matt Galownia a 40 at Greate Bay.
Baseball (6-13) lost to Egg Harbor Township, 10-0 (6 innings)
Vinny Murphy's double was the only extra base hit. OC fell behind, 7-0,
after three innings.

Softball (2-17) lost to Absegami, 8-1
The Raiders were trailing by just 3-1 when Gami scored 5 in the 7th.
Kathleen Kleva had a pair of singles and Shannon O'Neill a triple for OC.

Karin Olson had two singles for OC, which committed six errors.
Coed Golf (13-5) lost to Vineland, 166-172
Matt Galownia shot a 41 and Rob Kimball a 42 at Buena Vista.
Girls Track (5-3) at CAL Meet (Atlantic City)
Ali Decredico won the pole vault by clearing 10 feet. Kayla Ghanavati
was third in the 100 meters and Kelsey Greene third in the high jump.
Boys Track (4-4) at CAL Meet, 4pm (Atlantic City)
Brett Johnson won the 1600 meters by nearly four seconds. John
Fennekohl was second in the 3200 and Vinnie Djukanovic third in the javelin.

Dan Barrus and Joe Petrini were winners at No. 1 and No. 3 singles,
respectively.

Girls Lacrosse (13-3) defeated Our Lady of Mercy, 20-2
Colleen Netherby had three goals as OCHS completed the first season
of CAL lacrosse with an undefeated league record.
Coed Golf (13-3) defeated Cherokee, 163-174
Coed Golf (13-4) lost to Egg Harbor Township, 161-163
Kevin McCarthy, Justin Heckler and Elisa Mateer each shot 40 at Green
Tree.
Boys Tennis (8-8) lost to Absegami, 3-2
The loss ended OC's five-game win streak. The Raiders swept the doubles
and Dan Barrus almost pulled out a three-set match at No. 1 singles.
Baseball (6-11) defeated Atlantic City, 4-2
Zach Farnsworth drove home Chris Harris, who doubled to lead off the sixth,
with the tying run then scored the lead run himself.
Softball (2-15) lost to Atlantic City, 10-5
Karin Olson and Natalie Chamberlain each tripled for OCHS, which
trailed, 9-0, after three innings.
Tuesday, May 15th
Girls Lacrosse (12-3) lost to Eastern, 16-7
Casey Beyel scored four goals.
Monday, May 14th
Coed Golf (12-3) finished 4th in NJSIAA Group 3
Freshman Joey Massaglia led all CAL players with an 80 at Running Deer as
the Raiders finished fourth. Justin Heckler (83), Matt Galownia (88) and Kevin
McCarthy (91) played for OCHS.
Boys Tennis (8-7) defeated Vineland, 3-2
Dan Barrus, Joe Petrini and Randy Kohr were singles winners as the
Raiders won their fifth straight, beating Vineland for the first time since 1996.
Baseball (5-11) lost to Mainland, 12-2
OC was limited to four singles. Raider pitchers issued 15 walks.
Softball (2-14) lost to Mainland, 10-4
Karin Olson had a pair of singles and two RBIs. Morgan Bogushefsky and
Natalie Chamberlain each added a pair of hits. Mainland sophomore Chelsea Bruno had three
hits, including a triple, and two RBIs against her father's team.

Boys/Girls Crew at Atlantic County Regatta (Mays Landing)
The OCHS varsity four team of Amy Shrader, Danielle Brady, Colleen Smith, Shawnee
Foglio and coxswain Nicole DeCredico finished first.

Girls Lacrosse (12-2) defeated Lower Cape May, 15-2
The Raiders clinched the Cape-Atlantic League championship. Casey Beyel and
Casey Harper each scored three goals.
Friday, May 11th
Girls Lacrosse (11-2) defeated Middle Township, 14-2
Colleen Netherby scored three times.
Coed Golf (12-3) defeated Vineland, 157-182
Kevin McCarthy and Matt Galownia each shot a 38 at Greate Bay as
OCHS made it 10 straight wins.
Baseball (5-10) defeated Vineland, 4-3
Colton Ortolf was the winning pitcher in relief of his brother,
Connor, who pitched four strong innings as the starter. The winning run scored
on Zach Farnsworth's sacrifice fly in the 6th.
Boys Lacrosse (2-7) lost to Middle Township, 3-1
John Duffy scored for OCHS.
Softball (2-13) lost to Vineland, 12-0
Shannon O'Neill's 4th inning single was the only hit off
Brittany Giacomelli.
Thursday, May 10th
Girls Track (5-3) finished 1st in Cape May County Meet (MTHS)
Kayla Ghanavati won the 100 and 200 meters and finished 2nd in the triple
jump as OCHS improved to 28-0 in the county meet. Ali Decredico won her third straight
pole vault title, bettering her own county meet record. Other county champs from OCHS
were Katie Corson (400), Melissa Terwilliger (100 hurdles), Jordan Ippolito (400 hurdles),
Amanda Landi (discus) and Danielle McNally (high jump)
Boys Track (4-4) finished 2nd in Cape May County Meet (MTHS)
Ryan Birchmeier set a meet record in the 800 meters and Brett Johnson set
one in the 1600. They joined with John Fennekohl (3200) to sweep the distance races but it
wasn't enough. Lower Cape May scored in every event but one and ended OC's seven-year win
streak in the championship meet. Other county champs from OCHS were Vinnie Djukanovic
(javelin), Jason Gihorski (shot put) and Steel Nugent (pole vault).
Coed Golf (11-3) defeated Absegami, 159-169
Justin Heckler shot a 37 and Elisa Mateer a 39 at Greate Bay as the
Raiders won their 9th straight.
Boys Tennis (7-7) defeated Hammonton, 5-0
Dan Barrus, T.J. Bellucii and Joe Petrini were singles winners as the
Raiders won their fourth straight.
Baseball (4-10) lost to Egg Harbor Township, 4-3
Adam Lauer and Ryan Beebe each homered but EHT scored 4 runs in the
fourth and held on for the win.
Softball (2-11) lost to Egg Harbor Township, 10-0 (5 innings)
Natalie Chamberlain, Lauren Smith and Shannon O'Neill each singled for
the Raiders.
Wednesday, May 9th
Girls Lacrosse (10-2) defeated Mainland, 12-8
Casey Beyel scored seven goals. OC had a 9-3 lead at halftime.
Coed Golf (10-3) at CAL Individuals
Matt Galownia shot a 76 at Atlantic City to finish in 7th place.
Justin Heckler (80), Kevin McCarthy (81) and Elisa Mateer (88) also qualified for OCHS.

Dan Barrus and Joe Petrini won singles matches and the Raiders swept
the doubles.

Ryan Beebe's double in the second inning drove home OC's only
run. The Raiders committed six errors.

Gami's Amber Beauchemin pitched a perfect game, striking out 12 of the

Girls Lacrosse (9-2) lost to Clearview, 12-11
Casey Beyel set a new OCHS record for career goals. She scored four
to increase her career total to 141, three more than Maggie Long's previous record.
Girls Track (4-3) lost to Oakcrest, 80-60
Girls Track (5-3) defeated Hammonton, 101-38
Anna Ceniccola won the 800 and 1600 in both meets. Hillary Morris
(3200) and Kelsey Greene (high jump) also won in both of the meets at Hammonton.
Boys Track (4-3) defeated Hammonton, 92-48
Boys Track (4-4) lost to Oakcrest, 101-38

Coed Golf (8-3) finished 9th at Arena-Rifkin Tournament
Kevin McCarthy was 38th with a 10-over 82 at Ron Jaworski's Valleybrook
against more than 200 of South Jersey's top players. Justin Heckler (84) was 55th,
Matt Galownia (85) was 61st and Elisa Mateer (86) was 70th.
Boys Tennis (3-7) lost to Millville, 3-2
Randy Kohr won at No. 3 singles and the Justin Shepherd-Charlie
Nesbaum team won at second doubles.

Baseball (4-7) defeated Hammonton, 10-5
The Raiders won their 4th in 5 games as Zach Farnsworth had three
singles, Vinny Murphy a double and single and Adam Lauer a two-run home run.
Boys Tennis (3-6) defeated Mainland, 3-2
Dan Barrus won a three-set victory at No. 1 singles, Joe Petrini
won at No. 3 and Justin Shepherd & Charlie Nesbaum won at second doubles. It was
OC's first win over Mainland since 1994.
Softball (2-9) lost to Hammonton, 10-1
Natalie Chamberlain had a double among OC's three hits.
Tuesday, May 1st
Coed Golf (8-3) defeated Atlantic City, 164-178
The Raiders won their 6th straight and clinched a spot in the NJSIAA
Group 3 Tournament. Kevin McCarthy and Matt Galownia each shot a 40 at Greate Bay.
Girls Track (4-2) defeated Vineland, 97-43
Kayla Ghanavati (200, triple jump), Anna Ceniccola (800, 1600) and
Jordan Ippolito (400 hurdles, long jump) each won twice.
Boys Track (3-3) lost to Vineland, 98-42
John Fennekohl (3200), Brett Johnson (1600), Jason Gihorski (shot put)
and Dan Torroni (discus) were the OCHS winners against the highly-ranked Clan.
Boys Tennis (2-6) defeated Middle Township, 4-1
Dan Barrus and Randy Kohr won at No. 1 and No. 3 singles and both
doubles teams won in straight sets.
Softball (2-8) lost to Lower Cape May, 7-6 (10 innings)
Natalie Chamberlain tripled home two runs in the 7th and scored the tying
run. Lower scored the winning run using the silly tiebreaker rule, where a runner is placed on
second to start the inning.
